Own Projects: Scenario 1

An MP3 jukebox and DVD viewer. This would be used to play MP3s at parties in an automated track list and also watch DVDs etc. The name of the game would be to make it as small as possible so I can carry it around. This means
I will more than likely utilise a Mini-ITX motherboard for this as they're so blinking titchy. I've been looking at potential cases and was thinking about this one from Maplin, although it does look a bit like a ladies vanity case.

I reckon it will fit although I haven't measured anything yet. I was looking at buying a tft screen to use with this. But then I found these incredibly small 7" Chinese colour TVs on Ebay!

One of these could be fitted to the underside of the lid on the case allowing you to browse files and watch DVDs and TV! It should be noted at this point that most Mini-ITX motherboards have TV out sockets allowing you to plug the machine into any conventional television. This little TV could be considered
an extravagence. Fortunately these TVs seem to have UK distribution now meaning that I will no longer have to pay $30 shipping from China (in theory). The price of these TVs was about £70 excluding the shipping charges. It will be interesting to see what kind of price I can get if I decide to go down this road.

I would also like to have remote control functionality especially when watching DVDs. Something appeals about chatting at a party and pulling the remote out of my pocket to skip to the next track!

Many people who build their own Mini-ITX projects use them for very similar purposes to this. It seems a bit too similar to this project for my liking.

Good idea? Bad idea? Let me know.
